Reed Brown

Systems Engineer at Raytheon IDS

About Me

I graduated magna cum laude and with Honors from Brown University with an Sc.B. in Mechanical Engineering in May 2019. Since then, I’ve worked as a systems engineer at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems in Woburn, MA. I am familiar with a number of programming languages, including MATLAB and Python, have experience in experimental design and computational methods in fluid and solid mechanics, and have a firm foundation in the core topics of mechanical engineering. I also have a strong background in teaching engineering at the university level. I am currently applying to PhD programs in mechanical engineering in order to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to become an impactful member of the engineering research community.

My research interests include renewable energy technologies, especially wind and hydrokinetic turbines, as well as other high-impact applications of mechanical engineering like transportation safety, medical devices, and nanotechnology. In addition, I’m interested in the applications of advanced computer science concepts like artificial intelligence and machine learning to mechanical engineering problems.

Outside of work and class, I enjoy exercising (running and weight lifting), hiking in national parks, playing video games (on the Nintendo Switch), watching math and science videos on Youtube, playing and watching baseball, and playing with my cat.
